Conscious American™ is an online retailer committed to conscious consumerism. 

Our primary focus is on holistically + economically empowering women in vulnerable circumstances by partnering with organizations providing support, education & employment opportunities to survivors of domestic violence, abuse, and those escaping sex trafficking. 

The vast majority of our pieces are handcrafted by survivors and each purchase directly supports the economic empowerment of the maker.

A message from our founder... 

I started Conscious American as part of my healing process. 

As a witness to domestic violence as a child, a survivor of sexual assault & having escaped an abusive relationship in adulthood, it took me years to regain a sense of self-worth & inner dignity. 

As I have moved forward on my journey of self-acceptance and healing, I have found economic empowerment and holistic support to be the necessary foundations upon which to build a brighter future. I also found myself turning to activities like jewelry-making, candle-pouring & sewing - activities I could do with my own two hands in order to regulate my nervous system, ground within the present moment and create something beautiful through the pain. 

Having the awareness of so many women in the world facing similarly vulnerable circumstances and far worse, I developed a passion for being of service to other women along their healing journeys (both inside & out!). 

The physical products available for purchase are largely hand-crafted by survivors of domestic violence, abuse, and those escaping sex trafficking.

From Detroit to Mumbai, women survivors all over the world have come together through the crafts of jewelry-making, candle-pouring & up-cycled fashion design to be a part of our curated collection intended to help alleviate some of the suffering of this painful global issue. 

We also offer "print-on-demand" products, in which a portion of all proceeds go back into the non-profit organizations close to our hearts. With each and every purchase, your economic contribution is directly going toward the financial empowerment of women survivors of abuse as well as to our canine (and other animal friend) survivors, who we believe in supporting as well via the Humane Society & other animal rights organizations. (And as anyone with a rescue animal will likely tell you, they truly are the ones to rescue our hearts & souls when we are at our lowest.) 

Maximizing the amount of proceeds we are able to contribute to survivors is a HUGE passion of mine and I hope you will share with me in that passion while simultaneously enjoying these gorgeous products! 

I also host a podcast, Live Consciously with Nicole, where I share personal breakthroughs on my healing journey as well as other thoughts & insights about building this social enterprise alongside my film production company, Conscious Cinema. 

Periodically, I host a workshop in which I share practical steps I've taken along my healing journey in the hope that it will help other survivors as well as anyone who wants to jump on the self-empowerment, self-love, mindfulness, & conscious business train. OUR CORE VALUES

We believe...

• In curating a collection that is not only aesthetically beautiful, but equally as rich in the meaning & purpose behind each design

• That money is power & getting more of it in the hands of survivors is a major key to the global empowerment of women facing vulnerable circumstances 

• In holistic support for survivors who may be suffering from the aftereffects of abuse, like PTSD, nervous system dis-regulation, low self-esteem, negative self-image, and a distorted sense of self-worth

• In giving back as much as sustainably possible - a portion of all proceeds go directly back to the non-profits that rescue and/or provide opportunity & support to survivors - like International Justice Mission, International Sanctuary, Mend on the Move, You Grow Girl, and Freedom Studios (among others)

• In supporting our canine (& other animal friend) survivors as well who have no voice whatsoever when faced with abuse - a portion of all proceeds of pet products will be donated to A Wish for Animals & other organizations supporting animal rescue

• In sustainability - from our recyclable packaging to our minimalist approach, we wish to be kind to the environment as we participate in conscious capitalism; with this being said, we do not want to allow perfection to be the enemy of the good & are the first to admit - we are imperfect - yet sincerely doing our very best to be mindful & respectful global citizens while steering clear of extremes (for the sake of everyone's mental heath!)
